The Church & The Business
of Communication |
The Importance of Training
The church is in the business of communication - it always has been. Consider the beautiful stained glass in a medieval church, or the attention to detail in the architecture: they all spoke to people of their time in ways they could understand. They still speak to us today.
Yet today, there are other competing voices for hearts and minds. The church no longer has the kind of monopoly it once had. Theatres, TV, advertising, the web and the new 'Cathedrals' of the retail park all speak a message that is clear and unequivocal.
Our church traditions and heritage are wonderfully deep and to be cherished. Without debunking this, we should consider new ways of delivering an eternal message in ways that will engage this and future generations in a way that they are accustomed to.
If this 'mission' to communicate does not excite you, and you see it as your mission as to maintain the status quo and 'keep things as they have always been', then what we offer you will probably be of no interest. |
